And now, I will tell you about some of the events that happened at Or Hadash since my return from the Boston area visit.
On Tuesday, April 5th, in between my return from Boston and just before leaving on a short visit to Europe, we welcomed our very good friend Geri Levin from Temple Micah in Washington. It was such a pleasure to see Geri at Or Hadash! We spend some quality time together and our preschool children loved her!!

On Thursday, April 7th we had the first workshop for Wards of State, towards their upcoming Bar Mitzvah celebration this summer. The boys participated in their first class out of many, preparing each of them individually as well as in a group, for the exciting and very significant day in their lives. Wards of State B’nai Mitzvah celebration is one of Or Hadash Tikun Olam projects, carried out for the 11th consecutive year.

On Friday, April 8th, after a relatively short and eventless flight, I was warmly welcomed at our sister congregation Or Chadash in Zurich, Switzerland. I had the pleasure of going out to lunch with my long time friend from school, Rabbi Reuven Bar-Ephraim and our very good friends Hans and Renate Benjamin who were wonderful as always. That evening I had the honor of being the guest speaker at Shabbat services which was beautiful in both prayers.

On Wednesday, April 13th, we celebrated Seder Pesach with holocaust survivors and their families. Celebrating Pesach with holocaust survivors is another one of Or Hadash’s major and very significant Tikun Olam projects. We would like to thank Neil and Diane Exter and our many friends, from the bottom of our hearts, for generously supporting this important project. Our synagogue was full with around 200 guests, families of holocaust survivors who celebrated Seder Pesach with their loved ones.

On Wednesday and Thursday, April 13th and 14th and we celebrated Pesach with our preschools. On Wednesday I taught the children how to make dishes and cookware kosher for Pesach and on Thursday we celebrated Seder Pesach in each of the preschools.

On Wednesday, April 13th, Or Hadash Sisterhood members, volunteers and our youth, carefully and lovingly packed bags with essential food products to deliver to the Ethiopian community in Haifa. Isuf Mazon is one of our Tikun Olam projects which help the Ethiopian community celebrate the Jewish major holidays: Pesach and Rosh Hashanah. Our wonderful youth is always eager to help in this beautiful project and many cherished volunteers help deliver the bags to the Ethiopian community center in Haifa.

Even though we all say “Next year in Jerusalem” at the end of the Pesach Seder, I hope that each and every one of you will once again this year also say “Next year in Haifa!”
I can not imagine a place where I would rather have my Passover Seder- except of course with all of you.
For this reason, I would like to personally invite each of you to join this time with us in Haifa, either this year, or in the future, as well as any other time you would like.
Wishing you Shabbat Shalom and Chag Sameach!
Edgar & the Or Hadash Family

| | Yom Ha’Atzmaut, Talia’s Bat Mitzvah |
Dear Friends,
Shalom!
Last week found us in the midst of commemorating significant days between Holocaust Memorial Day and Israel’s Remembrance Day for fallen soldiers and terror victims.
As in previous years, our Holocaust Memorial service was led by Or Hadash youth.
Mor Freund, our youth coordinator, led a beautiful and heartfelt ceremony with participating congregants and many guests who filled our synagogue.
The week ended with celebrating Israel’s Independence Day and our country’s joyous 64th birthday.
To welcome Yom Ha’Atzmaut we held a unique ceremony called Ayelet Ha’Shahar which we have been celebrating at Or Hadash for the past 12 consecutive years. The ceremony, held out in nature, begins with a prayer at 4:30 AM, ending at sunrise with blowing the shofar.

Dear Friends,
Shavua Tov,
Last Shabbat we read Parashat Yitro, including the Ten Commandments. It is always elating and very moving to see a whole congregation arise to read the Ten Commandments, as though we are on Mt. Sinai.
I am very proud to belong to the Jewish People who have bequeathed such inspiring values to mankind. |

Dear Friends,
Hodesh Tov, A Good Month!
The new secular year 2012 got off to a great start for Or Hadash. Although it has been very cold in Haifa the last few of weeks, it doesn`t compare to what our East Coast friends are experiencing in America these days. |
